Municipal leaders are asked to encourage your residents to complete the census that they should have received in the mail in March. The census may be completed online, by mail or via phone.
Information collected in the census informs how billions of dollars in federal funding are distributed to states and communities each year. This information is also used to redraw legislative districts based on population changes.
As of March 26, more than one-third of Dane County residents (39%) had responded to the 2020 Census, and Wisconsin is leading the nation in responses.
April 1 is Census Day. Census takers will begin following up with households that do not reply to the census by April 1, asking that they complete the census.
