The Madison Area Transportation Planning Board (MPO) is seeking nominations for two seats represented by small cities and villages in Dane County.
The two-year term of Mark Opitz, Assistant City Planning Director with the City of Middleton, on the transportation planning board will expire in April. The appointment or reappointment for this seat will be for a full two-year term.
In addition, City of Fitchburg Alder Patrick Stern recently resigned from the Madison Area Transportation Planning Board. The appointment for this seat will also be for a full two-year term.
(NOTE: The third small city/village appointee to the Madison Area Transportation Planning Board is Steve Stocker, Sun Prairie alder. His term expires in 2018.)
These two seats must be filled by an elected official and appointees must reside within the Metropolitan Planning Area. Two of the three appointees must be elected officials. The third appointee may be an elected official or an official of a public agency or community that "administers or operates a major mode of transportation in the metropolitan area (ie a local planner or public works director). Because Steve Stocker, the third city/village appointee, is an elected official, only one of these two appointees must be an elected official.
Election to the Board is by a majority vote (8) of the fifteen (15) small city/village Mayors and Village Presidents in the MPO Planning Area. The MPO city/village member communities are: Cities of Fitchburg, Middleton, Monona, Stoughton, Sun Prairie and Verona; Villages of Cottage Grove, Cross Plains, DeForest, Maple Bluff, McFarland, Oregon, Shorewood Hills, Waunakee and Windsor.
City/village officials from any of the above municipalities are invited to nominate someone for either of the two seats. Please send your nominations to Bill Schaefer, transportation planning manager at Madison Area Transportation Planning Board, by February 28.
