The Dane County Cities and Villages Association and the Dane County Towns Association are teaming up to co-host an informational workshop on the topic of shared services this spring.
Participants will hear from three presenters sharing their expertise and ideas on how municipalities and governmental entities can simultaneously work together collaboratively and save the taxpayer money. They are:
- Tim Hanna - Tim Hanna is the mayor of Appleton and incoming executive director of the Local Government Institute of Wisconsin. He will speak about how Appleton has been working with neighboring municipalities and schools, what has been working or not working, and considerations for intergovernmental agreements.
- Rob Henken - Rob Henken is the president of the Wisconsin Policy Forum. The Wisconsin Policy Forum is a statewide, nonpartisan, independent policy research organization that helps local governments find data-driven solutions to policy challenges. WPF has conducted research on shared services opportunities in various parts of the state relating to: public health, parks/recreation, fire/EMS and other segments of local government operations.
- Philip Freeburg - Philip Freeburg is a local government law educator and lecturer at University of Wisconsin Extension. Among other things, he will discuss the legal aspects of intergovernmental cooperation.
The workshop will be held from
8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, at Clarion Suites, Madison (near the Alliant Energy Center).
The workshop is open to city/village/town elected officials, administrators and staff throughout Dane County.
