A resolution has been introduced in the Dane County Board of Supervisors by Supervisor Patrick Miles that would provide authorization for a city, village or town to defer property tax due dates to October 1, 2020, without penalty.
Under normal circumstances, property taxes are due by July 31, or a penalty is assessed. Legislation was recently adopted in the state of Wisconsin to allow deferral of property tax due dates due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This change only applies to taxes due in 2020.
The taxing district cannot change the due date without action on this resolution by the county board. If
this resolution is adopted by the county board, the local taxing district must also adopt a resolution to change the due date.
2020 Res. 20 was on Monday's agenda for the Dane County Personnel and Finance Committee and this
Thursday's agenda for the Dane County Board of Supervisors.
